It tells bits and pieces of the challenges, trials, and tribulations they experienced and the big secret about becoming “Tin Can Lizzie.” Liz made Rita promise not to tell her secret(s) until their book was published.

You will love the heartwarming story I wrote about my sister Lizzie and our family as we grew up in poverty with our wonderful Parents, who were both DEAF.

About the Author

Rita was born on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio. Life was a lot different for her and her siblings, growing up with parents who were DEAF and that used American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate. Rita and her family struggled to survive in an impoverished world and endured many difficulties. TIME was the enemy in their lives because they had to struggle, wondering how they would have enough food to get through the next day.

I did Love the book, the stories about Dr. Rita on how she wrote the last word of her sister Liz in the hospital. The death of Liz, the memorial, and the visit back to Sophia’s house. This story is fantastic! I urge everyone to get a copy of the book. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put the book down. I read it in two days. This is my family’s story and an excellent way to teach my children and grandchildren about our Great Grandparents, who were both DEAF. The book is so inspirational, and I will treasure it for the rest of my life and pass it down to my family.
